For the first time in history, the shortest man and woman in the world have met. The shortest man, Chandra Bahadur Dangi, 72, is from a remote area of Nepal and stands 21.5 inches tall. Eighteen-year-old Jyoti Amge hails from Nagpur, India and measures just under 25 inches tall.

Dresden, Germany, is getting ready to roll out the world's longest bus, the 98-foot AutoTram Extra Grand. Dresden news outlet the Local is reporting that the supersized bus, which can carry up to 256 passengers, just went for a test drive.

Even more surprising, the AutoTram can be driven by any bus driver; no special license is required. The bus got the green light because of a special train-like steering algorithm that ensures the two rear sections, which rest on four guided axles, perfectly follow the cab.

Kabul: Seventeen civilians, including three women, who were at a picnic were killed by Taliban militants at Musa Qala district in Afghanistan's southern province of Helmand on Sunday night, an official said on Monday.

At least two people said to have been killed and eight others wounded outside building, amid reports shooter is dead. 

Two people have been killed and at least eight others wounded in a shooting outside of the Empire State Building in New York, according to a police source from the US city. 

One of the dead was the shooter, the source said, adding that the incident did not appear to be terrorism-related.

(CBS News) LONDON - Eighteen months after anti-Assad street protests spiraled into all-out civil war, sources inside Aleppo tell CBS News that many of the business leaders, scholars and other prominent figures in Syria's largest city, who have backed President Bashar Assad and his family for decades, no longer see a future under his rule.

The Curiosity Mars rover really can move, NASA has established.

The mobile laboratory took its first test drive on Wednesday, after wiggling its wheels in preparation. It's not the fastest vehicle in the universe, with a top speed of less than 4cm per second, but its first perambulation was a success.

Curiosity's forward, reverse and turning movements all work, NASA said, adding that the test journey was around six meters long.
